Austin Health is the major provider of tertiary health services, health professional education and research across 3 campuses in the northeast of Melbourne and state-wide. Austin Health is world-renowned for its research and specialist work in cancer, liver transplantation, spinal cord injuries, neurology, endocrinology, mental health and rehabilitation. An exciting opportunity currently exists for an enthusiastic and highly experienced Registered Nurse to join our Endoscopy Department in a casual capacity. The Austin Health Endoscopy Department is located in the Surgical and Endoscopy Centre (SAEC), which was opened in June 2007 and is part of the overall Austin Health Operating Suite complex. More than 7,500 Endoscopy and Gastroenterology procedures are undertaken per annum on a weekday basis only. These procedures include Gastroscopy, Colonoscopy, Enteroscopy, Bronchoscopy, PEG insertion, Endoscopic Ultrasound, ERCP, Capsule Endoscopy, Oesophageal and Anorectal Manometry, pH Monitoring, and the use of Argon Plasma Coagulation and Laser. The endoscopy unit also provides other departments (including Theatre, Radiology, and ICU) with access to some of these services. As an Endoscopy Nurse, you will be required to:

  • Screen and admit patients in preparation for their procedure once they present to SAEC
  • Work within endoscopy rooms by providing technical assistance to medical staff when performing procedures and attending to patient care needs (i.e. medication administration, vital signs, airway management, positioning)
  • Safely process, handle and store endoscopy equipment for the aforementioned procedures in a time efficient manner
To be successful in this role you must have previous experience in endoscopy, day surgery or perioperative nursing. Your technical abilities must be well adapted to an interdisciplinary team environment which can be demanding and changing. Evidence of managing environmental and personal exposure risk are required as these are of paramount importance in the endoscopy environment. Well-developed written and verbal interpersonal communication skills are also essential as well as a sound understanding of information technology. Work with us!
